An Inappropriate President? The Online Reaction to Trump’s Sexual Harassment Claims

Here at Adoreboard we have been closely following the US presidential election, using our tools to measure how the world feels about the two leading candidates. Results have fluctuated throughout the campaign, with ups and downs for both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Following the second debate Trump has been the subject of more controversial allegations and this time it could have devastating effects on the success of his campaign.

Adorescore

Our analysis shows that at the start of presidential race Trump was steadily above Clinton on the emotional scale until the events of the DNC and RNC brought them almost neck and neck in August with Trump’s Adorescore at 33 and Clinton’s at 32. The first debate in September led to a dramatic drop in Trump’s Adorescore to 10 and Clinton’s not so dramatic drop to 23. The second debate was held this week and amid sexual harassment claims Trump’s Adorescore has plummeted to a negative -8 a stark contrast with Clinton’s 26. Could this mean the end for Trump’s bid for President?

Camp Trump rocked by Sexual Harassment Allegations

Less than a month before election day the Trump campaign has been rocked by an influx of sexual harassment claims against Donald Trump. After a 2005 recording emerged of Trump bragging that he could get away with inappropriately groping women due to his status. In the video Trump claimed, “When you’re a star they let you do it… you can do anything.”

Trump released a statement following the release of the recording on Friday stating, “I’ve never said I am a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone that I am not. I’ve said and done things I regret and the words released today on this more than a decade-old video are one of them.”

Watch the full statement below:

Ever since the release of the recording, more and more women have come forward with assault allegations against Trump.

  • Miss USA contestants have come forward claiming Trump has deliberately walked in on them whilst they were changing.
  • Claims of Trump walking into the dressing room of Miss Teen USA where some of the girls were only 15 years old.
  • A journalist has claimed that Trump forced himself on her before a 2005 interview.
  • Two women claimed he groped them inappropriately onboard an airplane.
  • A video has also emerged of Trump talking sexually about an underage girl during the Entertainment Tonight Christmas Special.

Trump has openly discussed going backstage at beauty pageants before with Radio DJ Howard Stern. Trump explained, “I’ll go backstage and everyone’s getting dressed, and everything else, and you know, no men are anywhere, and I’m allowed to go in because I’m the owner of the pageant and therefore I’m inspecting it…I sort of get away with things like that.”

Trump has dismissed all allegations as “locker room talk.”

Twitter Reactions

Trump’s low Adorescore of -8 is  mostly due to high levels of loathing and rage created by the disgust felt toward his derogatory comments and actions. People have taken to Twitter to voice their concerns.

Since the 2nd presidential debate and sexual harassment allegations were released, polls are showing Hillary Clinton pulling ahead in the race for President.

US politician Gary Johnson said, “Trump cannot win this election. It’s time for Republicans, and all Americans, to face that reality….Americans deserve better. Women deserve better.”
…Well said, Gary.
